Can homeopathy reduce my complaints?

It is good to ask your (classical) homeopath which schools of thought are used, because the various schools of thought may deviate from classical homeopathy and this has consequences for the treatment. This does not mean that one is better than the other, they are just different.

Classical homeopathy

In classical homeopathy, treatment is based on an extensive anamnesis, in which the homeopath tries to get as complete a picture of the patient as possible. This includes not only the physical symptoms, but also the emotional and psychological state of the patient. Based on this information, a homeopathic remedy is prescribed that best suits the totality of the patient’s complaints. A drug is given and then its effectiveness is evaluated before a new drug is given.

Older homeopathic movements

Complex homeopathy

In complex homeopathy, different homeopathic remedies are combined into a complex remedy. This complex drug is prescribed based on the specific symptoms the patient exhibits. Complex homeopathy is often used for acute conditions and complaints, such as colds, flu, hay fever and allergies. A frequently heard criticism is that the effectiveness of homeopathic remedies is tested individually, but with complex homeopathy the remedies are given at the same time. As a result, the effect may be different than that of the individual homeopathic remedies. And when there is an effect, which of the remedies was it?

Clinical homeopathy

In clinical homeopathy, treatment is based on the patient’s disease or condition. Every disease or condition involves a number of standard homeopathic remedies. With this method, less (or no) attention is paid to the patient’s total symptom complex and it is mainly prescribed based on the local complaint.

Recent homeopathic movements

Jan Scholten

Jan Scholten is a Dutch homeopath known for his contribution to the development of the periodic table as a homeopathic classification system. This system classifies homeopathic remedies based on their elemental structure and properties, similar to the periodic table of elements in chemistry.

Scholten links certain themes to elements, allowing him to combine resources that suit a patient. However, there are homeopaths who criticize this method, such as creating remedies that are chemically impossible to produce and ignoring that combinations of elements can cure very different symptoms than the individual elements suggest. The combinations of elements are according to the critics often not tested or not tested well enough.

Rajan Sankaran

Rajan Sankaran is an Indian homeopath known for his contribution to the development of the concept of “sensation”. Sankaran believes that every patient has a deep-seated sensation, which corresponds to a particular homeopathic remedy. This sensation is a deep feeling of discomfort that the patient has and that is not expressed in the traditional symptoms.

To identify a patient’s sensation, Sankaran asks the patient to describe how he feels in different situations and to talk about his dreams and fantasies. He interprets the patient’s behavior and gestures during a consultation and based on this the homeopath can prescribe a homeopathic remedy that best suits the patient’s sensation. Physical complaints are less taken into account. A problem may be that the interpretation of sensations and gestures is open to multiple interpretations and that the focus is not on the physical complaints.

Disease classification by Ewald Stöteler

All of the patient’s symptoms are placed into eight (or more) categories, with certain rules applying to each category of symptoms. Different groups of symptoms are treated with different drugs, often at the same time, so that the patient has to take two or more drugs in one day. The justification is that the founder of homeopathy also used disease classification, but this is not supported by all homeopaths. Taking different drugs per day can make it more difficult to know which drug is curing the patient. In addition, the critics say that the remedies are not given on the totality of the complaints.

C4 homeopathy

C4 homeopathy, homeopathic remedies are prepared in a different way. They assume that with each trituration (type of preparation step) the agent that is prepared has a deeper effect. C1 is the first trituration and is concerned with the physical symptoms. C2 is more concerned with emotional symptoms and C3 with the mental symptoms. C4 is the core of our being and destiny, where there is no good or evil and we can look at ourselves without judgment. However, it appears that regular homeopathic remedies can cure physical, emotional and mental complaints as well. There is also criticism within homeopathy about the way of testing C4 remedies.

CEASE therapy

With CEASE therapy, an attempt is made to undo the damage caused by vaccinations or medications using a series of potencies. Although this is done with homeopathic remedies, this is not homeopathy. The remedies and their potencies are not chosen based on the overall picture of the patient’s complaints. In addition, it often happens that it is not known why someone has complaints. Are the complaints really caused by therapy/medication/etc? If this is the case, a classical homeopath can address these complaints by choosing a remedy based on the totality of the patient’s complaints.

Bioresonance

Some homeopaths “measure” the patient using bioresonance to find a suitable homeopathic remedy. This falls outside classical homeopathy, where the remedy is sought based on the complaints.
